Edward Daka

Education: 4th year ISM student at Aalto University, School of Business

Current position: Intern, Smart Solutions

Why did you decide to apply to ABB?

I've personally been always interested in working with technology and the newest trends. I saw an advert about the ABB Talent Internship Program, especially the technology and digitalization track caught my interest. On top of being within my interest, it offered training and mentoring that I felt would be beneficial to me as I'm at the beginning of my career. I felt ABB could offer me complex and large challenges. This has been especially true, as IoT and digitalization is something that is starting a ramp-up in the traditional industry, and ABB is currently at the forefront of this development.

What type of project and tasks have you been doing during this summer?

I've had the opportunity to do various tasks during the summer. This has included

improving order-delivery tools and helping our product managers solve production and delivery-related problems. Without a doubt, the most interesting project I've participated in was related to subscription management. The team was tasked with finding a way to implement subscription-based business models at ABB. This project highlighted the difficulty and complexity of implementing new business models at an established company and allowed me to learn the different challenges related to project management in large organizations.

What is the best thing about ABB as an employer?

ABB allows you to work in a truly international company. Many daily tasks and functions require communication with people who are abroad. This together with good personal development tools allow for different career opportunities at ABB both locally and across the world.

Is there something that has surprised you while working at ABB?

ABB has a very diverse workforce in Finland. Working here has allowed me to meet and work with a lot of different people from different backgrounds. This is something that many workplaces in Finland lack.
