Sanna Valtanen – Junior Business Controller
Sanna started her studies in Aalto University School of Business in 2012. After the first year of studies, she specialized in management accounting, which felt like the right choice from the start. Sanna started working at Hartwall in August 2018, right before she graduated.
- I was expecting that a job as a controller would involve running the reports and analyzing the actions taken. However, I have grown into a sidekick for the marketing team and my role is to support and enable marketing plans and actions. Here I am now – solving small and big business challenges together with other Hartwall people, Sanna sums up her everyday life.
Sanna describes her role in the team as a gatekeeper. Her task is not to prevent the creation of wild ideas, but to make sure that the projects are implemented and commercially valid. What’s the best thing in your job?
- I enjoy problem solving and making things happen. That is why I think professionally most rewarding moments are when I can produce business-critical data and information that helps others making the right decisions businesswise – be it launching new products or rationalization of investments. It is great to see that my work helps the organization to learn and develop its activities, Sanna replies.
For the future Sanna sees a great deal of opportunities at Hartwall. The track for more responsible financial management positions is already clear to her, but there are also other options. Sanna considers it possible to gain additional responsibility for marketing analysis and management in the future.
Hartwall invests in personnel development and offers interesting opportunities for career advancement.
- The best thing about working at Hartwall is that we dare to give responsibility to young people as well. For example, many current senior executives have started their career at Hartwall as a summer trainee, Sanna knows.
It is possible to build a career track inside the organization, and the position as a Junior Business Controller can open many doors. Sanna also participated in Hartwall’s own talent program. The program is called Thirst for Talent and it was held for the first time in 2018.
- Participants were involved in various development projects and learned a lot about how the whole organization works. At the same time, networking with very different functions also helps to perceive the importance of your own work. We also received mentoring and various expert speeches to support personal development.
