Company of the Week: International Trainee at SEB
I’m one of two International Trainees at SEB in Helsinki and I will try to shed some light on the International Trainee program and why I find it really exciting. I recently graduated from Hanken School of Economics, with a major in finance and started at SEB in September.
I’m seated in the CFO office as an analyst and my job includes mainly management reporting and supporting in various projects. The position gives a great view of SEB’s business in Finland as a whole, as well as a better understanding of the banking sector in general.
The Trainee group consist of 25 persons in total, stationed in Finland, Sweden, Norway and Germany which shows that it is a truly international group of people. The trainee program itself includes rather frequent travelling, as we meet with the other trainees roughly once a month for about a week. The activities include meeting senior management in order to learn about all the different divisions and teams that exist and to gain a better understanding of what they do. The program also includes personal development, as we have common training weeks where we learn e.g. presentation techniques, leadership and team building. This is something that I have found extremely valuable.
We are also allowed to move around the bank during the year, working shorter or longer periods in other teams, which is really exciting and educational. Last, but not least, all trainees have the opportunity to go on an international internship for one month to an office abroad. Luckily, SEB has offices in several international hubs, such as New York, London and Shanghai, as well as more locally in the Nordics, Baltics and Germany, which gives you a wide range of offices to visit. I’m planning on visiting the Loan Origination team in Stockholm, which will give me a great opportunity to work closer with clients.
All in all, SEB puts a lot of effort into the International Trainee Program and it really shows. It is truly a privilege to be a part of this awesome program, where I have had the opportunity to get a comprehensive view of SEB and the banking sector in general. Best of all, I get to do all of this together with a group of 24 other eager and amazing people!
